interbike 2011 back to Vegas

So the announcement just came in! Interbike 2011 will be back in Las vegas for 2011 and be in September. Maybe it was the outcry of protests from dealers saying they couldn't leave their shop in the hight of the season (august) or maybe it was Trek coming out with its private dealer product launch Aug. 7-10 2011 overlapping with the new dates of Interbike. Whatever the reason, Interbike will be the same old, same old for 2011.

To bad. I was looking forward to the change of pace.

Interbike 2010 indoor goodies

ZIPP wheels came out with the new firecrest shape!

According to Zipp the new shape, wider at the spoke nipple end than the tire end, makes the 404 more aerodynamic than the 2010 808! And the new 808 is more aero than the 1080! The 1080 will not be receiving the new shape cuz it won't fit in most frames. No weight gain either with the new shape!

Look and Garmin are slating this new tech to come out spring 2011! Left right side power, any bike, only 100g, lots of reasons to make the switch! Garmin hasn't released much info on theirs but the Look set up will be around $2,200.00 ooff

Fairwheel bikes brought a 6lb road bike... It was about as rideable as a model plane is flyable...

Today was busy, as tuesday always is a bit more crowded than monday. We test rode the Santa Cruz butcher, norco range, zipp fire storm 808 and 404, Ellsworth epiphany and the Scott 899.

First off, the Santa Cruz butcher. Very confident on the down hills but the climb was just a touch slower than the genius from yesterday. Not bad for a traditional mtb set up. Very fun to ride.

The norco range was basically the same as the butcher, almost scary how similar, but way cheaper! Cudos to norco pulling this one off!

The Scott 899 hard tail full carbon mtb was fast, plain fast! As you would expect a 17 lb mtb to be. This thing could toast most cyclocross bikes! Enjoy! It'll cost you. 6 grand or so.

The Ellsworth epiphany was somewhat disappointing. Slower than the norco. But the down hills were nice. The bike is heavy. There are better all round bikes out there, but if DH or dual slalom is your thing, check it out.

Finally the roadie wheels. Zipp's new shape, the fire storm. It comes in a 404 and 808 variety. Very nice! Faster than the fastest wheels out there. In fact the fire storm 404's are faster than the 2010 808's!!! Scary fast and stiff. The 808's were a bit sketchy in the Vegas cross winds, but that's to be expected. A solid improvement on an already awesome product!

1st day of interbike 2010

Long time no see! The summer here was busy to say the least! Sorry for the lack of posts, but gotta work done when it's in season!

Interbike kicked off well today with lighter than usual attendance but the booths were on there game! Lots of cool stuff, new trinkets and fast bikes!

The theme of 2010 seems to be versatility. The top road bike we rode today and mtb bike were both build around being able to change it up to keep multiple ideal riding styles happy.

The mtb was the 2011 scott genius LT. Unreal! 7.2 inches of travel yet super fast on the x-country side of things! No topping this one if all you can buy is one bike!

The road bike was the new look 695. Adjustable in several ways! Crank length. Compact or standard chainrings. Stem angle and length. Seat tube integrated or standard. Three different seat tube vibration dampers. This bike is 28 in one and light to boot!

Those are the best in show for day one.

This Weekend was the CT State Championships in New Britain. A large field of racers today, about 60-65? The pace was high as it always is on this course. A relatively safe race with a couple sketchy riders in the mix. With two to go Dillon noticed that Maison looked good but was stuck behind a tight bunch of riders. So as the bell was ringing Dillon pulled Maison Chen up to the very front of the pack! Maison managed to stay there for the rest of the last lap and bagged 2nd place! Thanks to the rest of the team as well! Chris B, Peter Kenny, Joe P and Tom Krol.

Weekend Race Action - Bethel CT Coast Race

Joe P, Gregg F and Dillon P raced at the Bethel crit this Sunday. The pace was fast but manageable. The race was well organized and well attended with about 50 guys in the cat 4 race. There was basically no action until the final sprint where there was more flesh and bikes in your way than the NYC tour! Joe P managed to fight his way through for a stellar 3rd place! Gregg and Dillon were caught behind the bunch and had no clear line. all-in-all a good race!

Sorry about the long absence of posts. The "on" season here is killer busy! The team is still racing it's overworked heart out. Good results across the board. Joe K just pulled in a 5th place at the Stafford Springs Crit. We signed on a new member, Tom Krol. Now if we can only find him a XL team jersey... He's tall.

The shop is on top form, selling Jamis and Scott bikes like there's no tomorrow! Tri stuff has been doing well this year as well.

Some guys from the shop have been doing the Monday night Middletown ride. A good mix to the weekly routine. More hills than the Sleeping Giant Ride and a bit slower.

The team is up by one point in the Plainville Spring Series! It's a nail bitter!

Congrats to BMX Tim! He was down in the city at a bmx freestyle comp with 25 pro's and ended up baggin a 7th place! Rock Rock On!

The "New" New Haven crit was pretty nice! Maison Chen got 13th! It was a tough race with nasty gusts of wind and bumpy, fast corners! Well promoted and attended! Officials and scoring where top notch as well!

well the wrap up goes like this

The 4/5 race was dominated by Guido and his three man break away that happened three laps in and eventually lapped the field!

Other than that, there was a touch of wheels on the back straight with three to go and a six person pile-up resulted! Dillon P separated his right AC joint! He'll be out for a while! Everyone else got off easy with cuts and bruises.

March 14th racing action

Today was supposed to be warm. It ended warm but was 25* for the 9am race!

The cold wasn't going to stop CCR though! Gregg, Dillon & Joe P set out to do the 4/5 race at Plainville, and did it they did!

Pretty normal race except for the last lap when Gregg Ferraris proved that brains gets you wins. He single-handedly pulled Dillon & Joe around the last lap in a killer lead out. A lead out so effective that even Dillon (although leading out Joe P) got 4th and Joe P won the field Sprint! But alas, one lone rider was, unbeknown to us, up the road and took up the 1st spot.

The 3/4 race had our boys Maison, Ken and Joe P.
This race was pretty much owned by the cyclo-nuts... and rightly so cuz there was, like, 10 of em in that race. That's how it goes some times.

The 09 racer season is in effect

This Saturday was the first race of the season! Plainville Spring Series race #1

The feeling is always strange going into the first race. Nervous, Don't know what to expect, Who's fast, Who's slow? Are you fast? slow?

Well, now we know.

The fist race went off at 9am. Joe P. went to that race and took 3rd! Someone got carted off in a ambulance with a broken collar bone! Joe P. was flying the CCR colors in that race solo cuz the team was more focused on the 3/4 race at 10 this week.
GREAT JOB JOE P. (Joe also raced the 10am race as well!)

Now on to the 10:05 race.

The riders from our team were:

And this is how the cookie crumbles.
The race was fast with some big names showing up. The avg speed was 26+

Dillon couldn't hang :(
Joe P was tired(from the 9am) but held his own.
Ken was in watch mode, he did well.
Maison was on good form and will be a force to recon with.(as long as he gets his zzzz's)
Joe K. was on from, coming off his 12 week off season training regimen (I'm doing it next winter). Whatever he did, it works!
He pulled in a break with 9 to go and then proceeded to ride away from a bunch of strong riders with half a lap to go. The other guys were looking around like "who's gonna pull me to the line" but when Joe K had 600m left he said "why is everyone going so slow? I'm outty" and Rode away from the peleton like it was in quick sand!
Nice 1st place from Joe K.
There was a broken Collar bone in the 3/4 race as well!

Race update

The race season is slowing down but a couple of big races take the spotlight at the end of the season.

Naugy crit: Hot and Humid! "Broken" Chris A. and Joe P put a CCR stamp on the 4/5 race with a 5th and 3rd respectively! Bruce raced this race too, but got a blowout.
Gregg and Dillon gave the 3/4 a shot... Ouch! 26mph with a side order of heat stroke! Gregg finished! That's cool...

Tour of the Hilltowns! Chris B was the one brave soldier to storm this castle! 56 miles of hills! He looked good all race and the results proved he was good... 7th out of a full field of 100 riders! Well done!

Big racing weekend!

This weekend was a hot-bed of racing activity!

The Keith Burger memorial crit on Sunday was a fast slug fest around a flat block! Average speed was 25.7 and it was SO HOT out! Sweat was flying everywhere! Joe P got 4th for CCR and Dillon placed 14th.

The Monday night lights were out for The Twilight Criterium to Benefit Cystic Fibrosis Research.

Hunter and Dillon car pooled to this race. It was a crazy ride into the sticks of CT. Barley getting there in time for the 3/4 race that Dillon was in! No time for a warm up as Dillon barley got to the line in time. The race was plain fast! Open track ovals always are. This race averaged almost 27 mph! Dillon came in third.

Hunter's two races (Pro/1/2 & 2/3) were equally speedy with attempted breaks and heartbreaks! Hunter placed 17th and 10th!

Campagnolo's big jump!

Campagnolo has announced that for 2009 the top three level group-o's (including the revival of SUPER record) will have 11 speeds in the rear! That's right, 11 speeds on a 5.5mm wide chain! Sounds like fun to tune!

Sturbridge race write up by Joe K

Well here is the blow by blow of the day...

Starting the night prior....spit shined my rig for an hour...got all
the dried up worms off from the Plainville series. She was looking
HOT! Bag was packed, bottles ready, I was more prepared than usual.

Morning of....left promptly at 9:55am for the nice ride up to Warren
MA. took about 1:15min. Still feeling a bit congested and chest was a
bit tight from my cold but otherwise I was feeling ready to go.
Registration was a piece of cake, got dressed, and went for a short
warm up. This event was huge...... tons of riders.... parking lots
were packed to the gills! All the main guys were there, Eric M., Ron
Larosse, Bob German, and many others. Weather was perfect, blue skies,
70F, no wind.

The race started promptly at noon, not sure where Chris B is but I guess
he's here somewhere. We were led out by the lead
vehicle for a 4 mile neutral start. 2 miles into the neutral start the
lead vehicle made a wrong turn and the entire peloton had to double
back...pretty funny! At this point I see Chris B playing catch up.....must
have been late to the start.

The course was very nice rolling terrain with a hilly finish, each lap
was about 17miles with about 1200ft of climbing. The first lap was
pretty easy going but fast, a few attacks but nothing stuck, speed was
fast about 23-24mph avg with some max speeds reaching near 40! I was
in a good position up toward the front but not doing any real work,
just following wheels. 2nd lap saw some real attacks, one of which I
tried to get into but again we were brought back by the start of the
last lap. I was feeling pretty good but could definitely feel the legs
starting to get tight. The last lap was faster still and a solid break
of 4 got away. We reeled in two of the 4 about 10 miles into the last
lap. 3 miles to go! We are on the hills....legs are feeling OK but
not great. I feel like I can stay with the leaders but not strong
enough to attack. The remaining break away riders were caught.
I was sitting about 7th position with 500m to go
when suddenly a CCNS rider goes down right in front of me! CRASH!! I
ride right over his rear wheel! I go down hard! over the bars,
tumbling and rolling a few times into the woods. A chain reaction of
downed riders behind me! This guy took out a good 12-15 riders! Two of
which were seriously hurt. My adrenalin was pumping, I quickly grabbed
my bike and untangled it from the CCNS guys bike and rode to the
finish. Chris B was involved too but not as badly, we rode to the
finish together. Dazed and hurt I crossed the line, knee bleeding,
shoulder hurt and scraped, helmet cracked in 3 places, and a flat
front tire to boot. For the most part I was OK and my bike was too. Major
Bummer!! I got a SRAM front wheel to get back to the parking
lot/school. There were two guys still down in the rode, looked like a
broken leg and not sure what the other guys problem was. Ron L took
2nd and Eric M took 3rd. I'm sure I could have been right up there
with these guys had I not been involved in the crash. Results were posted today
and it turns out I came across the line in 32nd place.

Another Plainville Spring Series (PSS) goes down in history.

The last race in the six week series had the team needing some solid points to come out on top.

In the 9am race the guys from CCR were down 21 to 12 points going into the last day of racing. Gregg, Joe P, Dillon, Gary, Dave, Bruce and Chris A were the roster for this last ditch effort to defend the team championship they claimed last year in this category.

The race started smooth with some trying to get off the front but Gregg and Dave were closing gaps with the efficiency of braces! Prime # 1 coming up and Dillon(on his new Scott Addict with Srampy, campy shifters and a Sram drive train, that he was up until 2:00am building) found himself behind a rider named Dwayne Melton. Dwayne, either trying to solo to the prime or leading Dillon out, pushed the entire 2nd half of the prime lap and Dillon had no trouble rounding him for the 1st in the prime and 2 much needed points. Thanks Dwayne for the solid pull! (he got 2nd. not bad for going on corner two) More laps and more defense by CCR to keep things under control. Along comes Prime # 2 and this one was rough! The group was soft peddling until the bell, so all were fresh for the sprint. No one wanting to go to early this time, it was a bunch sprint after the last corner! Dillon was 13 bikes back going in to the final 100m. (for those of you who don't know, 13 bikes back at 100m = your not going to win the sprint) But Dillon, with an acceleration that you would expect from a small motorcycle, jumped as hard as he could and took the prime by 1/2 a wheel! Another 2 much needed points.

More recovery and quick laps to the finish. No breaks had succeeded due to good riding from all the CCR squad. The final sprint was here! Chris A. and Joe P. were the ones with the fresh legs and drive to take this one... Last corner, Joe P. in great position and Chris A. just inside and behind him. Then, the yellow jersey( from ccns?) goes down 20m after the corner! Why? who knows, but it slowed Joe P. down and Chris A. managed to stay inside it. Chris put in a hard kick and got 2nd! Another 5 points! WOW! Joe P. not out yet, swerved around the crash and pounded the pedals to get a 5th place finish!(he was also only one 2 points from a individual point win)! 2 more points!

So the team was down 9 points at the start... 2+2+5+2=11 points. And because of the untimely crash from the CCNS rider, no points for his team...

That makes CCR the Champs AGAIN!!! 9am cat 4/5 race, Once more is CCR's!!!

On top of winning the 9am race, our best racers were in the 10am race. How did Joe K. Chris B, and the brave twice a day racers do? Well, in a race that is half Cyclonaughts, CCR did ok... 3rd place in the overall standings with Joe K coming in 3rd for individual points! Joe K. did so much work every week in this race, he truly made it a solid spring training session for himself!

After some solid warm up runs He broke his tail bone in the first comp run trying a 720 over the box.

Weekend race recap by Joe K

Here is my blow by blow recall of the race.....

I went off and followed the first break two laps in.....me and some
cyclonaut guy. We had a good gap......I think he pulled through twice
while were out there. The wind was nuts....in yo face the entire
finishing stretch. I was basically alone in the break.....doing all
the work all the way around each lap. This guy would not take a pull
for love or money....rode my butt the entire time. I heard the
bell.....prime lap about 9 miles into the race......The cycloNUT still
not taking a pull at the front....did not matter....I gassed it and
left him in the dust and took the first prime....and at that point or
soon after he dropped back into the peloton. All alone out
there......still.....legs are really starting to feel it......20 min
left to go in the race. Looking back around each corner I could not
even see the peloton. The laps continue to go by....suddenly feel a
tap on my back.....two break away riders catch up to me....I latch on
to their wheel and finally get a small rest.....but continued to pull
through when it was my turn. Another bell....prime lap coming
again.......but the two escapees let me have it....they just wanted
the stage win. Doing my pulls...laps continue to trickle by.....legs
are on fire now! 5 to go! still out front....peloton still not to be
seen. 4 to go....we start to see the tail end of the peloton. 3 to
go.....almost catch the peloton......next lap the race official cut it
to 1 lap fearing that we were going to catch the peloton and get mixed
up in the pack and confuse the finish. Somehow I end up taking my pull
along the back stretch and the other two would not pull through at
this point. nearing the final corner I go for it....all out mind
numbing....leg splitting sprint! it was not enough....the other two
were to strong and nipped me with 50m to go.....I took third. What an
amazing race for me. I can't believe we almost lapped the pack! I
pretty much pulled out front the entire race. Avg speed was 22.7!
crazy considering the massive head wind today. Found out after the
race my team mates were doing all they could to block and slow down
the peloton....great team effort today. I earned 8 points and $30
bucks! Well time to rest up and go attack Bethel tomorrow.

Bethel update:
This race was great for me as well.....2nd on the first prime and 6th overall. There was a 5 man break that got away and was never caught......but I won the field sprint! First time ever winning the field sprint up the hill!! I was so psyched! Great weekend for me!

Well this means a bike with Campy shifters can now run a SRAM rear derailluer and Sram or Shimano rear 10 speed cassette!

All those of you who have Campy groups but are salivating over the huge, unrivaled selection of Shimano free hub wheels, You can run ANY wheel set with a Shimano hub if you run a SRAM derailluer and cassette! Keep your existing Campy shifters! They'll work fine together!

Did Sram know the Red, Force and Rival rear mechs would work with Campy shifters when they made it? Did they do it on purpose?

So the first race of the season was today! (at least in this area)
The boys from CCR chose to race in the 3/4 race. faster but more rewarding. It was uncomfortably cold and wet. But once you're wet... you're wet.

Now, for not riding much over the winter Dillon did ok. Joe K was Killin it! When the ccns boys were pace blocking for their comrades in the breaks, Joe seemed to be the only one working to get em back! Tough pace and conditions, but Joe came in 4th. Dillon... somewhere in the middle?

If you missed it you have to wait till next year! My My My was it fun! This race was tough fast fun and long!

The day started at 5:30am for some setting up the course, registration tables and prizes. At 8am the first racers started showing up only to be taken back how awesome our course is! The races all went off with out a hitch. Unless you consider near death exaustion a "hitch"...

So many Photogaphers showed up that if you missed the race, or any part of it go to the Cheshire Cycle cross page to get to all the different sites toating images of our fun-fest!

Once again "The Hill People" were the life of the party! Videos will be on you-tube shortly!

Fall MTB-ing

With the fall season upon us, the shop has been doing a lot more mountain biking and night MTBing.

This has caused us to look at our mountain bikes more, and road tech stuff less.

With added attention on our off-road steeds, we find out that long travel bikes are the only option if true speed is desired. This is CT! If we ride with California guys on their trails, they tell us to "watch out for super tough section up here" and that part of the trail is as hard as a New England section you would use one hand on the bar for. The other hand would be pulling a stick from your friends moving bike before it does some real damage. That's right, one hand!

Long travel bikes are required here! There is too much stuff in your way. You need it! Chris L, D.P, Jess and Mike smoke other riders on a regular basis while on their 6.25"-7" travel bikes! Why? Because of all the stuff in your way and the sketchy descents!

In conclusion, get yourself a 6"-7" travel, 69* head tube angle, 2.3" or wider tires, 29lbs beast of a bike! A bike that will climb as good as it descends! Drops 5 footers with out bottoming out and can be raced on the weekend!

Right about now, You're saying in your head, "It doesn't exist. If you can drop it, it's too heavy. If it has over 6" of travel you can't race it!"

2008 Norco Fluid Lt 2

INTERBIKE 07

The first two days of InterBike are devoted to testing out any bike you want! Good thing it's not open to the public or it would be packed!

OK. The bikes I tested go something like this.

1. Norco Fluid SE. This bike was light, responsive and versatile! Fully decked out with new XTR kept it feeling tight.
2. Haro Xeon. A bit more XC than I expected. not to drop able but fast as all-getup
3. Turner RFX w/ a Cane Creek Double Barrel. This bike would've been perfect if was 2 lbs lighter. But I'm being picky.
4. Foes 2:1 xct.(curnut rear shock) This bike was fun, a good do all on the xc side.
5. Scott Gambler. Unfortunately this bike had seen about 2 months of demo-ing between Euro-bike, Canada's demo days and Interbike. It was basically busted up. Not fun. If it was working, It would be an awesome point-and-shoot monster on the descents!
6. Purgatory w/ Cane Creek DBL barrel. Heavy but pedaled well. The rear shock was flawless on this bike. Unreal.
7. A-line Park edition. The new 888 up front was killer! This bike was my favorite! So confident and fun! I took it on 3 DH runs. Nice.
8. Santa Cruz bullit w/ Chris king hubs and h-set. The hubs and head set were dialed perfect, the bike was not. To stiff. It felt like a XC bike.
9. Carbon Ransom by Scott. Sick bike. Very fast! The travel says all mountain but it really is a XC bike. So fast.

Road
1. Kuota K.O.M. So stiff, fast and light but... to stiff for every day riding. Every Crack felt like a pot hole. Every vibration made it to your spine! But, Sausage! It was fast!
2. Scott Addict R2. This bike had the new Dura-ace wheels with tubeless tires. This was smooth and fast! This bike a 10/10!

First off I want to thank Gregg for giving me his bottles with 2 laps to
go....I would not have made it.

Second....Great Job Chris B to hang tough and take 5th place.....it was a
long tough race.

....I was not to sure how I was going to feel....I had missed Tuesday S.G.
due to rain and family commitment and only did two short rides since the Mt
Washington flop weekend. I went into it thinking I'll just do my best. The
race started out at a reasonable pace and the peloton remained intact for
the first 3-4 laps. I decided to go for the K.O.M. points on lap 4 and found
myself out front with a small gap. I decided to stay out front to be able to
keep my own lines on the ensuing downhill corners. Coming up the long main
drag I noticed I had been caught by a Pat M from the Zephyr team. He wanted
to work together and keep the gap....I was feeling good.....so off we went.
We kept the pace high on the next few laps to open up the gap....at one
point we were told it was 45 seconds. Pat offered up the KOM points to me
for working with him to keep the gap, that was fine with me. We stayed out
front the whole race. With 6 laps to go my legs really started to feel the
effect of the hills and my bottle was empty. I was nervous that my legs were
going to fully cramp to the point I could not pedal (where your legs just
lock out...and you feel like you'll just fall over). This is where I saw a
team mate up ahead....Gregg.....thank god.....my prayers were answered. He
gave me both his bottles and it gave me the boost to hang on. Pat was still
feeling strong and started to ride away from me on the second to last lap,
but I was able to keep my pace and finish second and take the KOM award. I
clocked over 3000ft of climbing and averaged 21.3mph for the race. My legs
are extremely sore today....it's difficult to even walk.

Anyways thanks again Gregg....hope I can repay the favor someday....Nice
showing for Epic Velo....see you guys tonight at sleeping Giant.

Mount Washington's long awaited, once a year, suicidal ride up to the peak was canned due to 75 mph wind and horizontal sleet! O Come on! It's only once a year! Let 'em ride up, even if they'll get blown over in waves of ice bullets! Rain date anyone?

Gregg and Chris B. went to the Tour of the Hill towns in MA. on Saturday. Both were "hurting but it was fun." They placed back in the peloton but just finishing is outstanding!

Dillon raced in his "Flat loving" crit fashion on Sunday in Hartford Keith Burger Memorial Crit. Not a bad showing for E.V. placing 5th all on his lonesome.

ATC 2000

It seems as though, with the Cofidis squad out and the Astana team out and the yellow jersey being torn off "the Rasmainian devils" back, you can't help but wonder if they're not all doping. Rasmussen passed 14 tests and was still booted! Have the riders found a way to "pre-dope" for the tour and still pass tests? (Is that what Ras was doing in Italy instead of Mexico?) And if they have, what about Lance? Did he use this "outlawed American substance" that Rasmussen tried to get through his old MTB connection? Are the tests falling behind the cheaters?! Do you even care? Are we to far from the peloton to even comment?

Donovan-Ruhlman Naugatuck Criterium

This race was WET!!! The pro's race was stopped with 13 to go due to lightning. By the time the pros wrapped it up the cat 3 4 race started at 5:15ish. It was fast and pouring!! The flood gates opened up 10 laps in and 5-7 guys quit on the spot. Dillon was hurtin' and Chris B. did a crazy solo bridge up to the break and placed 4th! Not bad for a Field full of cat 3's. It rained all day. Not fun.

the New Brit Crit by Anthem

Anthem puts on a good race with strong support and competition! Joe, Chris and Dillon were the soldiers on the front line for Epic Velo. The day was hotter then a Saudi Arabians camel's hump! The riders were eager to go and the pace proved fast. The heat and fatigue soon set in and people were crashing on straights for no reason at all.

CRASH COUNT

1.) a nasty crash into the 2nd corner 3-5? went down. It happened behind the E.V. guys
2.) a crash on the back straight in the hot hot heat. Dillon was caught up in that one, didn't go down but had to stop
3.) A crash on the chicane making Chris B. jump the curb and grind into the guard rail! He stayed up but the peloton rode away.
4.) Last lap, back straight again. Riders getting tired and the pace was last lap hectic so some contact was made between two guys and they went down hard! Dillon, again using his Mtb skills to narrowly miss this, his 4th close call of the weekend!

Joe K. not getting involved in said crash #4 took 3rd place! Good job placing on the podium and staying upright guys!

Hartford Crit Backwards

You know how in Gran Touismo fro ps2 they have 15 tracks but they list 30 cuz you can hit em all backwards??? That was like today, the Hartford crit people decided to run this race backwards to make us feel like it was something new. And it was. New and treacherous! The race was fine for the first 19 laps! surges and rests, head-winds and fast sections. But then final lap bell rings and people start acting stupid! Dillon managed to stay up front for the whole race and not work to much giving him a good shot at top five. But as always in the very last corner of the very last lap two guys tangled up directly in front of Dillon (as in, the guy Dillon was drafting was the one to go down) and He had to jam on the breaks then sprint like mad to save any placing. 13th was the result.

"Hussy Hills race" by Joe K.

The race started out at a decent pace, no craziness, or crashes that I was aware of. My legs felt really good up the hills on the first go around and I found myself, Chris, and Gregg up front on the most of the 2nd half of the first lap along with Eric M (Keltic), Dave F (Mystic velo) and some other random guys doing most of the work. About 8 miles from the finish I started to get some twinges in my left hammie but not to bad yet. The pace really started to pick up about 3 miles from the big hill, one guy tried to make a break for it but Eric M, Chris , and I chased it down. Coming into the final stretch where the turn comes to go up Constitution Hill for the finish it was Eric M leading it out, then Chris, then me. Eric makes the turn and Chris missed it and kept going straight......UUggggghhhhh......I was in serious dis-belief. I made the turn and quickly caught Eric, who was out of gas and slowed dramatically . I got out of the saddle to hammer and all of a sudden.......excruciating pain in both quads and hammies.......I thought I was going to lock up right there at the base of the climb. Some guys started passing me so I sat and down shifted......bamo! dropped my chain!........major bummer.........I got it back on by just using my shifter but it definitely cost me some momentum and a few bike lengths on the main group. The pain subsided a bit and I continued to turn the cranks at my own pace. Around the second switch back I started to feel better and shifted a few gears and started gaining some momentum. I caught a a few guys and suddenly found myself in an all out sprint for the line with four guys.

For me it was a Very Very good day....15th place and just 30 seconds off of the winning time. I might have done a bit better had I not dropped my chain. ......a great day would have put me in the top ten! Never the less I bettered my time from last year and beat some of my main rivals. We averaged 21.4mph and I clocked 4250ft of climbing on my computer!

New Brit Crit. The CT state Criterium championship

New Brit Crit. The CT state Criterium championship is always a fun event and it brings out the top guns due to the fact that it's the CT state champs! Well organization, food and free t-shirts make riders happy!

The day started with rain! lots of rain. But Dillon and Joe K. decided that rain won't stop CCR from showing the other riders who the state belongs to! (Road-racing-crit-cat-4 wise, of course)

20 laps and 74 riders stood between Epic Velo and victory! The start was timid due to the water but the pace lifted 4 laps in to a 24-25mph avg. Dillon drew first blood with a short, test the waters type attack, 6 laps in and the field answered with a resounding "your kidding right, get back here chump!" I complied. No action for the next few laps besides some strong riders working hard at a good pace up front. And Joe placing 2nd in a preme (prime?) Then with 9 laps to go Joe dropped the hammer with a violent attack! Dillon hopped on thinking "If more come with us, (and with two E.V. guys they WILL come with us,) we make this stick!" No one chose to keep up with the attack. Dillon and Joe K had 30 bikes on the peleton in no time. Dillon was getting tired and the other teams weren't there so the likely-hood of the break working was poor. But Joe K stuck with it and some fast riders wasted valuable energy pulling Joe back and it still took 3 laps to pull the solo break back.

LAST LAPS:
The pace was ereely slow with a crash 3 laps to go and tired riders trough-out. 500m left Joe said "too slow fellas" and punched it! He won by 4 bike lengths and Dillon came in 19th overall 9th out of the Nutmeg state-ers.

Over-all the Epic Velo squad won some sick points and Joe K won some well deserved respect!

Hartford Crit

This Race is fast and scary! The block that it goes around has this nasty 2nd corner cuz it's downhill and the 4th corner is bad cuz the road narrows as you enter the corner! That being said, Chris A. and Dillon went to represent the E.V.

Both where not in the mood to crash. Dillon was going to the cape the same day for his 6th anniversary and this was Chris' 1st race since his crash in plainville (bad knee)

The race started fast, real fast! Then the inevitable crash! A rider went down hard on the line straight and took down a bunch with him! Dillon ran over a couple wheels and almost hit some poor guys head, but stayed upright! That crash brought the race to a halt with only 3 laps left! When the guys were chilling waiting for the race to resume, in a frantic 3 lap to go pace, Dillon's cpu read the AVG at 26MPH!!! The whistle blew and the 3 lap sprint was on! 2 corners later, another crash! Two guys went down with a curb blow out! Epic Velo stayed safe again. It was fast till the end where Dillon placed 35th and Chris placed 37th.

A good finish seeing as how the goal was to stay upright! Mission accomplished!

Spring Busy!

Sorry we've been gone so long! It is so busy here in the shop! Tune ups, rides and non stop customers make it tough to write a blog. But here one is:

This upcoming Sunday is the Hartford Crit! This race is fast and furious with excellent spectator sitting areas. This race has always been fun to race and to watch. The Epic Velo guys will be in the 3:20 Cat 4 race. Come on down to the green in Hartford and check out the race!

And, Tuesday night Sleeping Giant rides are in full effect with the avg. being 23.5 MPH for the ride. Nasty stuff... come in down to Cheshire Cycle & Repair at 5:30 or meet up with the group at Sleeping Giant at 6pm, if you can hold down your lunch!?

Plainville Race # 6

We won! The pace was hard and the riders all wanted to cap off the series with a win. But alas, to the cheers of the motivating crowd, Epic Velo wins!

The race started with attacks and replies (skip,dillon, jeremy, bruce, gregg) including a sick tough acceleration by skip and jeremy. Joe took 2nd in the prime and then the pace went nuts! Dillon's heart rate averaged 185bpm over the whole race!!! The team had torn themselves apart responding and attacking! Chris B got out on a solo break for three laps, and the other teams finally had to do something. Chris B and Joe were the only survivors to see the last lap. The team did what it could.

Standing by the side line the bell rang for final lap. Instantly the pace went up. The peleton, a shell of its former self, accelerated to a inhuman pace. Laying the bikes over into corner # 1. Then out of view. It's quiet while their on the back stretch. Last corner, bikes and men going so fast you can't even pick out your team mates! Then, as the finish line seemed to sprint toward the riders, Joe K's white helmet and sunglasses emerged from the hectic power of the front sprinters! He Win's! Cheers and claps! Laughs and high fives! Then it's quiet again. This is the reason we race. This is why we all match. This is what the training is for. Not the face of the losers but the face on the winners, your team. Team Epic Velo.

Plainville Race #5

This race had all the members of Epic Velo doing some top notch racing! Bruce, Chris B, Dave, Dillon, Gregg, Joe K, Skip, and W were the soldiers on the front line of battle today! It was windy and chilly, with the sun poking through to warm up the circuit of concrete pain. The pace was fast from the get-go with Attacks and responses coming Quick(Skip, Dave,Dillon)

The bell rang for the prime lap and the guys form E.v. responded! Skip pulled hard and Bruce picked it up. Bruce pulled all the way to the last corner and 40 yards up the back straight when Dillon pulled out from behind him to win the prime by two bikes over a Cyclonaut rider. Joe K. also put in a hard effort for the prime but came in third.

The 2nd half of the race was Epic Velo all over the front all the time! The attacks from E.V. came hard and quick and the peleton was getting their screws turned! All 8 of the Epic Velo fleet took turns working hard up front and pulling the snot out of the peleton! W dropped his chain and was out for the last 1/4 of the race. No worries, the E.V. squad was determined to dominate! So dominate they did! The bell sounded and the lead out began! A Benidorm rider jumped early having visions of breaking away for the last lap!? Not so! Chris B. hopped on his wheel with Dillon then Joe. The benidorm guy blew up and Chris took the lead and charged down the back straight with all he had, pulling Dillon and Joe. Dillon took over and pulled into the wind for Joe at 31 mph! Joe picked it up and got the sprint win by a couple bikes! Fast and well executed!

The team as a whole is responsible for wearing out the peleton and leading out with intelligence! This was a desicive and well earned win!

Plainville Race #4

This was the race to make a statement! The opportunities to score points are running out and we needed to do well to keep ourselves in the hunt for the lead!

The race started with Epic Velo controlling the pace and keeping it together (Skip, Dillon, Dave)

The prime bell sounded and Dillon, Jeremy and Chris A. went for it with Adams getting 2nd (3 points)

After the sprint Chris B. decided that was his time to break! Two others went and the break was on! The three became two and the false pacing and blocking began by E.V. to insure the high place of the break. Epic Velo stomped on every effort to bridge up to the break (Skip, Jeremy, Dillon,Bruce, Dave) and the two up front got 40 sec. on the Field in no time! This got a few people in the peloton upset!!! One Cycle-not guy resorted to swearing at everyone in E.V. colors and we just responded with "race tactics, man"...

This same guy, in his usual all over the place style, took out Chris A and they both went down. Jeremy stopped to see if Adams was all right and the cyclonot loser proceeded to offer to fight Jeremy!

The break succeeded and Epic Velo got 2nd in the overall (Chris B.) 5 points. 8 total

Plainville race # 3

This was once again, a fast, sketchy race! There were attacks and chase downs! Dillon and Skip worked hard to keep things together. Jeremy, Gregg and W worked to keep Chris A. & B. safe and fresh. The result? The work to keep things together (Dillon + Skip) paid off. It was a large Field sprint at the end of the race with, our two fresh guys ( Gregg Jer W), Chris A. getting 4th and B. getting 6th!

Today's race action was intense! Epic Velo had Jeremy and Joe K. in the 8am race. This race was cut and dry until the pack sprint at the end where Joe K. did the team proud with a 3rd place finish! Jeremy placed top ten.

The 11am race was much faster then the last plainville crit. This race averaged 24.5 MPH with attacks, breaks, and bridges all over the place and Dillon, Gregg and Chris A. trying to hold it together! The last break of the race Chris A. jumped in and it stuck till the end with Chris A. coming in 2nd. (he thought it was 1st but due to the lapped riders not getting pulled, an unaccounted man was up the road)

Dillon and Gregg back in the peleton had no reason to pull back the break so they planned for a Field sprint with Dillon leading out Gregg 1/4 mile to the finish! The timing was perfect and the peleton was toasted! Dillon popped 150m from the line and Gregg sprinted to a Field sprint win and an overall place of 9th!

Check out Chris A. giving it his all and the other rider getting a perfect view!

So the kid that won the 1st Plainville 11am race stuck his hands in the air well before the line in a victory salute to himself, then promptly veered left and hit the 2nd place guy resulting in a crash and the 2nd placer breaking his frame in two spots! The rules are clear about keeping your hands on the bike at all times...

What should be done about this, if anything. The kid was paid his prize $ and is on the plainville web-site as point leader.

What do you guys think?

Well the Plainville series is back in action and the spring birds are chirp-chirp-chirping away!
The race Epic Velo chose was the 11am slot so we can race as a team and challenge ourselves with the most competition. Although the competition was lacking Benidorm due to their choice of racing the 40+ division. We missed you guys! Maybe next time...

The race started with two juniors bouncing off the front as soon as the whistle blew! (one of the kids was the Maxxis boy who's quick, too quick) Dillon and Chris A. worked at pulling them back, and off he went again and again. This kid has energy to burn! 8 laps from the end a break away of 4 guys got 15 seconds on the peleton and Chris and Dillon were tired of the constant chasing! Chris B. on the other hand, had some in the reserve tank! He bridged up to the gap in a seemingly effortless move that took all of half a lap! Well, once your team mate is in the break you don't need to chase. Dillon, Chris and Jeremy rested, with Dillon and Chris doing some blocking.

The results were Chris B. getting 3rd in the break.
Chris A. & Dillon placing 1 and 2 in the field sprint, for a 6th and 7th overall(I guess they had some juice left as well) and Jeremy placing 9th as well!

WELL DONE!!! Top 10 for the whole team!

This weekends crit was intense!
The feild was fast due to the mild winter and everyone pumped from the new season.
Jeremy, Skip & Dillon were the racers from Epic Velo and they were hurtin!!!
Skip and Dillon got a big FAT D.N.F. "The hill was just to much for us sprinters!"
Ya right!!!

Jeremy had a good showing though, comming in about 30th-35th- not bad for the 1st time out!

Dear fellow industry members:

I am writing this letter today on behalf of Floyd Landis, both in support and in defense of his character. Saris Cycling Group and I have supported and will continue to support Mr. Landis. Floyd has always been a man with integrity, one who has followed through with every commitment he has made to us. The damage done to his previously flawless reputation alone is cause for us to come together, and call attention to the injustices that have been brought against him. Over the course of the past eight months, Floyd has been fighting an uphill battle against WADA, USADA, the UCI and the people who have brought the lawsuits against him. In the United States, the law states that one is innocent until proven guilty. Floyd has been held guilty until proven innocent during this entire ordeal.

Not only do I believe Floyd's word, but also his use of our PowerTap during the Tour gives cold hard data to show that his performance was not out of the ordinary. All of his data from Stage 17 indicates that his performance fell within his normal training zones. Many of his friends and supporters have abandoned him since the Tour, leaving him with staggering legal fees. So in case you havent heard, Jonathan Page from NH placed second in Sunday's World Championships. He actually lead for a couple of laps as the hometown Belgian crowd was besides itself. A Belgian did end up winning so all is right with the universe, but Page's performance has put The American Cyclocross scene on the map. Ryan Trebon finished 23rd. Katie Compton on the womens side also finished 2nd!

So i seeing that Ne-bra.org has posted most of the race dates for the 2007 road season.

Looks like the Tour of CT will be coming back as a 2 day race. West Hartford is having a "Twilight" race on a friday. That must mean a night time race with streets lit up. And that is feakin cool ! Wonder where it will be. Stay tuned, or if any readers out there have an inside scoop, let us know. When you count that race, Springfield on Saturday, Downtown Hartford on sunday, and then Stafford Springs on Memorial Day monday. That's 4 Crits in a row, all in close proximity of each other! I can't imagine that happening anywhere else in the country. New England rocks!

Basically the series runs on Saturdays. March 10th till April 14th.

It is all but official, the 2007 edition of CheshireCross will be held Saturday November 10th. The weekend after the huge Cyclocross races in Farmington and Northampton Mass.

Everyone had fun for the first race we have ever put on. This year will be even better.

Great riding this past weekend. Gregg & Hunter cruised the east and found themselves crossing many a town line on Saturday. They saw 76 degrees on one outdoor thermometer.

Sunday's Sleeping Giant ride was an adrenaline laced affair with over 35 riders. Average speed was around 21. Nuts for early January.

Winter will have its revenge -- just wait
